Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how the Kikitori app and this website handle your data. In short: your voice never leaves your Mac. Transcription runs entirely on your device, the app needs no account, and neither the app nor this website tracks you or collects personal data for advertising.

Your voice stays on your Mac

Kikitori records audio only while you are actively dictating, and transcribes it on your device using the Whisper speech model. The audio is processed in memory and discarded after transcription. It is never written to disk permanently, never uploaded, and never accessible to the developer. The resulting text is placed where you direct it (typed into your app or copied to your clipboard) and is not transmitted anywhere by Kikitori.

Data the app stores on your device

Your settings (chosen accuracy tier, language, behavior options) are stored only on your Mac. This data is not sent to the developer, and no account or sign-in is required to use the app.

One-time model download

On first use, and again if you switch accuracy tiers, Kikitori downloads the selected Whisper speech model from Hugging Face, a model-hosting service. As with any download, the hosting provider technically processes your IP address to deliver the file. No audio, no text, and no personal information is sent; after the download, transcription works entirely offline.

Purchases

The optional Kikitori Pro upgrade is processed by the store you bought the app from, the Apple App Store for the App Store edition, or the checkout provider for the direct-download edition, under their own terms and privacy policies. The developer receives no payment details, only confirmation that the purchase happened.

In the App Store edition, purchases are validated by RevenueCat, Inc. (USA), a subscription and purchase management service. To check whether you own the Pro upgrade, the app sends RevenueCat a randomly generated app user ID, technical device and app information (such as the operating system version), and the App Store transaction. This identifier is created by RevenueCat and is not linked to your name, your Apple Account or any other identity, and no audio and no transcribed text is ever sent. The legal basis is the performance of the purchase contract and our legitimate interest in verifying purchases reliably (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). Data is transferred to the USA on the basis of the EU standard contractual clauses. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.

For the direct-download edition, activating a license key sends the key and a device name to the licensing service solely to verify the purchase.

No tracking, analytics or advertising

The app contains no analytics, no tracking technologies and no advertising. This website uses no cookies and no analytics.

Website hosting

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. When you visit it, the hosting provider automatically processes technical connection data (such as your IP address) in server logs, as is technically necessary to deliver the site securely. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Contacting the developer

If you send feedback or a support request by email, your email address and the contents of your message are processed solely to handle your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@wissmueller.net.

Children

Kikitori is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
