Mokuso

A diary you write by hand — on a page that stays empty until you put something on it

A day in Mokuso on the iPad: handwriting, a timestamp, and a typed note on one page

Write with the pencil

Mokuso is made for the Apple Pencil. Pick a nib and write — the page holds your hand's own letters, not a font's. Place, date and time go down when you want them, and not before.

The palette opens where your pen already is: an arc of tools within a turn of the wrist, so your hand never has to cross the page to reach them.

The Mokuso palette opened under the pencil, an arc of nibs and tools within reach

One diary, three devices

  • Your diary lives as plain folders in your own iCloud Drive — one folder per day
  • The ink sits in its own file, with a Markdown transcript beside it that any text editor can open
  • iPad, iPhone and Mac read and write the same folders
  • Nothing lives in a database only Mokuso understands

Nothing happens by itself

A fresh page is empty. Every block is one you placed: a passage of handwriting, a timestamp, the place, the date, a typed note. The diary does not arrange your day for you.

Quiet by design

  • No feed, no streaks, no reminders, no accounts
  • Handwriting is transcribed on the device itself and never leaves it
  • There is no server to send it to
  • Lock the app behind Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode — or leave it open, per device

Yours to keep

Because a day is an ordinary folder, you can copy it, back it up, or read it in twenty years without Mokuso. A diary you cannot get out of the app is not really yours.

Available on

iPad (iPadOS 17+) iPhone (iOS 17+) Mac (macOS 14+)

Reading is free, writing is a subscription

Reading your diary is always free, and so are the first three days you write in. After that, one subscription covers iPad, iPhone and Mac together.

  • Mokuso Monthly — an auto-renewing subscription, 1 month, £0.99 per month (prices vary by region)
  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase
  • It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; the renewal is charged within the last 24 hours
  • Manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account settings
